Needs & Wishes
OPINION OF THE STAFF
THE KITCHEN
Current problems:
- Too little storage space
- Unpractical design: through many corners and edges
- Oven and frigde are too small
- Oven is placed too high
- Not enough equipment to heat large meals at the same time
- Drawer under induction stove gets hot because no ventilation is now provided
- Fume hood is unpractical
Expectations:
- The use of sustainable materials
- Lay-out: switching the kitchen with the administrative room (more space for deeper cabinets)
- The use of materials that are easy to maintain
- Providing two ovens instead of a combi-microwave oven
- A large work surface
- Do not mount push-to-pull cabinets (for the safety of the children)
- Cabinets equipped with nicely processed lock
- Design: a homely, warm atmosphere with a practical design
- Style: Scandinavian look (white and wood)
- Providing plenty of storage space (big storage closet for food)
- Expand the island counter
- Creating a live-in kitchen for a family with 'eight' children
- Provide a trash sorting system
Must be maintained:
Maintaining overview of living space from kitchen and overview from administration room to big play area
Maintaining the island counter at the kitchen (used by educators and parents). Maybe include a deep cabinet with storage from one side and washing machine from the other side
LIVING AREA
Current problems:
- Lack of practical storage space
- Impractical storage closet that is far too high and does not blend in with the rest of the living space
- Storage closet for games is missing a lock
- Sofa is worn, leather is covered with scratches
LIVING AREA
Expectations:
- Providing storage cabinets with doors (not using to many shelves)
- Creating small different playing areas for the children
Must be maintained:
- Eating by the window
- In case of excess budget: replacing the large couch (same leader material and low backrest)
ENTRANCE HALL
Current problems:
- A cold shaft was created but the second door was removed for practical reasons: so the remaining cadre can be removed as well
Expectations + Must be maintained:
- Fan of the homemade shoe closet: practical because it's build in layers of shelves and concrete blocks. When a layer is worn-out, you can easily replace it with another wooden shelf
- If it were to be replaced: providing a practical shoe closet that is affordable and easy replaceable.
IN GENERAL
Interior:
- Creating a calming interior with a scandinavian style
- Bringing back a warm atmosphere by using white and wood
- Integrating the green of the garden
- Changing the current colour palette
- Providing enough storage space for the kitchen and the living area
- The current curtains are heavy and unpractical
- Doing something with the ceiling
- Creating a separate 'mini' living space where the parents and children can eat, play and bond together
- Providing one TV is enough: trying to teach the children to do other activities
Materials:
- Reusing the basic elements of the interior: for example the floor or concrete columns as a reference to the old building
- Using low-maintenance materials
- Using materials with a long durability
- Painting the brown bricks white or placing gyproc in front of it (with permission!)
Technical:
- Changing the lighting plan: operating light separately (for example for the living area and kitchen, so children can watch TV and other children can play games at the dining table)
- Currently, the room is heated by air convectors. These are placed in the floor at the windows
- The organization of wall heating is not logical
- Taking care of the existing structure of the building
Practical:
- The administrative area should be lockable
- Money, candy or other sharp objects should be kept safely under lock and key
- Budget-conscious thinking: through the small budget, reuse as much furniture as possible and replace the most necessary elements
- Providing practical and safe coat racks
Activities:
- The kitchen often hosts cooking workshops with the parents
- Designing a kitchen that can also be used by the children: for cutting greens, baking, setting the table and clearing dishes
